ISLAMABAD: On the fifth anniversary of India’s controversial actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Pakistan is observing ‘Youm-e-Istehsal’ (Day of Exploitation) to underscore its ongoing support for the Kashmiri people.

On August 5, 2019, India’s unilateral move to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status led to significant regional tensions and international scrutiny.

Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister have all issued statements reaffirming the country’s diplomatic, political, and moral backing for the Kashmir cause. The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister has addressed letters to both the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, urging action to address the consequences of India’s actions and calling for the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions. These resolutions aim to grant the people of Jammu and Kashmir the right to self-determination.

Ahead of the commemoration, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary briefed diplomatic missions in Islamabad on August 2, 2023, providing an analysis of the situation from the perspectives of international law, peace, and human rights.

To mark ‘Youm-e-Istehsal’, a special ‘Walk’ was held in Islamabad along Constitution Avenue, leading to the Parliament Building. The event, attended by key Pakistani officials, aimed to express solidarity with the people of IIOJK. Across Pakistan, and in Pakistani and Kashmiri Diaspora communities globally, various activities and events are being organized to raise awareness about the plight of the Kashmiri people and to continue advocating for their rights.
