ISLAMABAD: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan are exploring collaborative efforts to develop their human resources.
In a meeting between Ethiopia’s Ambassador Extraordinary, Plenipotentiary, and Special Envoy to Pakistan Jemal Beker, Federal Minister of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development and Salik Hussain, discussed various joint skill development initiatives in a meeting on Friday.
The proposed initiatives include hands-on training and courses aimed at equipping the youth of both nations with modern technical and vocational skills. These programs will cover sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Computing, Blockchain, and more.
The discussion also emphasized the importance of these collaborations in strengthening the bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
During the meeting, Ambassador Jemal Beker underscored the Ethiopian government’s dedication to developing a skilled workforce through its Home Grown Economic Reforms Programme (HGERP).
The HGERP is designed to foster macroeconomic stability, attract private sector investment, enhance domestic production, and improve the quality of government services.
He highlighted the success of HGERP 1.0, which has led to a stable and robust economy through increased foreign direct investment, productivity, and job creation. The recently launched HGERP 2.0 aims to further stabilize the macroeconomic environment, transform investment and trade conditions, boost growth, and enhance public sector capabilities.

Minister Hussain shared insights into Pakistan’s human resource development strategies, noting his ministry’s efforts to collaborate with other nations for skill development and job creation. He expressed full support for the proposed collaborative initiatives and extended an invitation to Ambassador Jemal Beker to lead a tree-planting event at the University of Gujarat.
This event, organized by the Minister’s office, is intended to promote environmental awareness and aligns with the Green Legacy initiative of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali.
