REHOBOTH BEACH: Kamala Harris and Joe Biden will next week make their first joint campaign appearance since Biden’s surprising decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
The event will take place in Maryland near Washington on August 15, where Biden will join his vice president to highlight their efforts to reduce costs for Americans, according to a White House statement.
Inflation remains a concern for Democrats as the November election approaches. Since Biden’s departure from the race following a problematic debate against Donald Trump, Harris has energized the Democratic Party with dynamic rallies, record fundraising, and a significant improvement in poll numbers against Trump.
Biden has largely stayed out of the public eye during the final months of his presidency, but he is expected to support Harris in key battleground states like Pennsylvania and Michigan, where he still has strong support among older white voters. Despite this, Biden will mainly focus on his legacy and helping Harris’s campaign, while keeping a lower profile.
Recently, Biden has also spoken out about the potential for unrest if Trump loses the election, echoing concerns about a repeat of the 2020 post-election turmoil.
Furthermore, Biden is working with leaders from Egypt and Qatar to facilitate a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict, with discussions set to coincide with his and Harris’s joint appearance.
