ISLAMABAD: Social media platforms have recently been abuzz with misinformation claiming that Fiverr has barred Pakistani freelancers from its platform, however, the claims were found inaccurate, a comprehensive investigation revealed.

Amid rising concern and confusion, reports suggesting that Fiverr had restricted access for Pakistani users were found to be recycled from a similar incident reported on May 11, 2023. This misinformation resurfaced on August 13, allegedly propagated by accounts affiliated with a political party aiming to stir unrest within Pakistan’s freelancing community.

An in-depth review of Fiverr’s official channels and community groups has confirmed that there have been no recent updates or notifications regarding any such restrictions. Despite the circulation of these misleading claims, Fiverr’s platform was verified to be functioning normally with Pakistani freelancers’ profiles remaining active and accessible.

“Fiverr’s operations are ongoing without any issues affecting Pakistani freelancers,” said a spokesperson. “We have conducted thorough checks and can confirm that the platform is fully operational for all users, including those from Pakistan.”

It is also noted that connectivity issues, which sometimes affect users in the global South, including South Asia, are routine and not indicative of any operational problems with Fiverr. Such issues are typically related to internet service fluctuations rather than platform-specific concerns.

To dispel doubts, a video demonstration was made available, illustrating that profiles of Pakistani freelancers are operational and visible on the platform. This demonstration serves as concrete evidence against the false claims circulating online.

The spread of this misinformation underscores the critical need for fact-checking in today’s digital landscape.
