DOHA, Qatar: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani emphasized the need for restraint from all parties involved in the Gaza conflict during a phone call on Wednesday.
The two leaders warned that no regional actor should take actions that could jeopardize the upcoming ceasefire talks set to take place in Qatar. This cautionary message is particularly directed at Iran, Hamas, and Israel, as tensions remain high following a series of recent escalations.
Blinken’s diplomatic efforts extended beyond Qatar, as he also engaged with Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and Israel to ensure a unified approach to the ceasefire negotiations.
The push for talks comes after President Joe Biden expressed frustration over an Israeli attack in Iran, which led to the death of a Hamas leader involved in ceasefire discussions. The Biden administration continues to press Iran to avoid retaliatory actions against Israel.
