BEIJING, China: Vietnam’s top leader, To Lam, arrived in China on August 18 for a three-day state visit, marking his first official trip since assuming the role of general secretary of the ruling Communist Party. During the visit, Lam is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
The visit underscores the strong diplomatic and economic ties between the two communist-run nations, despite occasional tensions over the South China Sea. Both countries have been working to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership, which was further solidified during Xi’s visit to Vietnam in December 2023.
Lam’s visit will include a tour of locations in Guangzhou where former Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh conducted revolutionary activities. The trip is seen as a continuation of efforts to build a “China-Vietnam community of shared future,” reflecting the importance both nations place on their bilateral relationship.
