Pakistan Observes World Humanitarian Day

ISLAMABAD: World Humanitarian Day is being observed in Pakistan and across the world today, emphasizing upon the values of compassion, faithfulness, and empathy towards those suffering in hazardous regions. The day was initiated by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in year 2009 with the purpose of recognizing and encouraging the dedication of humanitarian workers and organizations devoted to the welfare of humanity worldwide.

This year’s theme “Act for Humanity” centers on protecting and securing civilians from attacks during conflict zones. The aim of the theme is to mobilize people to advocate for a broader humanitarian cause. This day honors the relentless dedication of humanitarian workers who are abducted, injured and even killed while helping those in crisis state. The UN and various social organization pay rich tribute to the spirit of humanitarianism on August 19. This day holds significance in the human history as 22 humanitarian workers were killed in a bombing in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on August 19, 2003.

Like other parts of the world, various events and activities are also being organized to mark the day in Pakistan. Leaders, human rights activists, and citizens renewed their commitment to serve for the humanity worldwide.
