LONDON: WhatsApp users can now enjoy a long-awaited upgrade with the rollout of the new favourite chats and groups feature. Meta, the owner of WhatsApp, has officially introduced this feature to its global user base, enhancing the app’s functionality and user experience.

The feature, which allows users to mark specific contacts and groups as “favourites,” has been in the works for some time. According to a recent update from WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp for iOS 24.16.79 update is now available on the App Store, confirming the broader availability of this sought-after addition.

The update’s changelog reveals that users can now add their preferred contacts and groups to a favourites list, which will appear prominently at the top of the calls tab and serve as a filter in the chats list. This new functionality aims to streamline access to important conversations, making it easier for users to stay connected with their most frequently contacted individuals and groups.

To start using the feature, WhatsApp users need to navigate to the app settings and select the favourites section. Here, they can add contacts and groups to their favourites list with just a few taps. Once added, these favourites will be easily accessible.

The update also includes a refreshed calling user interface (UI), which boasts updated controls designed to enhance usability and improve the overall reliability of the calling feature. The new UI aims to make calling interactions more intuitive and accessible.

For users who have not yet received the new features, it is important to note that the rollout may take several weeks to reach all accounts. As with many app updates, the availability of new features can vary based on account and regional factors.
