Pakistan’s President, ADB Country Director Discuss Development Initiatives

ISLAMABAD: Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Yong Ye on Thursday met with President Asif Ali Zardari and discussed the bank’s contributions to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.

During the meeting, President Zardari commended the ADB for its support during the recent floods and acknowledged the bank’s assistance in agriculture, irrigation, and education. He also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to combat climate change, including the extensive planting of mangrove forests on millions of acres.

In a separate engagement, President Zardari bid farewell to Konstantinos Moatsos, the outgoing Greek Ambassador to Pakistan. Zardari underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Greece and extended his best wishes to Moatsos.

Earlier, President Zardari urged the federal government to provide immediate relief to the public by reducing electricity bills. He called for a reduction in tariffs, stressing that current bills are excessively burdensome for the public.

Zardari emphasized that both federal and provincial governments should develop a strategy to alleviate this financial strain on the population.
