Pakistani Envoy Discusses Agenda of UNGA’s 79th Session with New President

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram has discussed the agenda of the 79th session of UN General Assembly when he formally called on the new President of the 193-member Assembly, Philemon Yang of Cameroon, at United Nations headquarters in New York on Wednesday, and assured him of Pakistan’s complete cooperation.

The envoy congratulated Ambassador Yang on his assumption of UNGA’s Presidency of the current session.  During the meeting, Munir Akram welcomed President Yan’s focus on sustainable economic growth, security, peace and human dignity, which are the fundamental pillars of the UN Charter, amid multiple complex disasters facing the world, a statement of Pakistan Mission said.

He expressed Islamabad’s hope that the United Nations will succeed in addressing the international challenges under his wise leadership. The General Assembly President thanked Pakistani envoy Akram for his warm felicitations.

In a post on social media, President Yang wrote, “Grateful for the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Munir Akram, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN. Appreciate the support extended on the work of the 79th session and the upcoming #UNGA79 High-Level Week.”
