ISLAMABAD/DUBAI: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has said that his country would not hesitate to get nuclear weapons if Iran continues with its nuclear programme.

All bets are off if Iran gets nuclear weapons, Farhan Al Saud said during an interview at the World Policy Conference in Abu Dhabi.

He said that they were in a very dangerous place in the region and the regional states will certainly ensure their own security.

Though Saudi Arabia remained skeptical about the Iran nuclear deal, Prince Faisal said that it supported efforts to revive the pact with the US and other big powers on condition that it will be a starting point and not an end point for being a stronger deal with Tehran, according to Reuters.

Gulf Arab states including Saudi Arabia have pressed for a stronger nuclear agreement that addressed their concerns about Iran’s missiles and drones programme.

He said that the signs right now were not very promising and positive. Prince Faisal said that they hear from Iranians that they had no interest in nuclear weapons but it would be hardly to be believed and they needed more assurance on Iran’s nuclear programme.
