PAKSAT-MM1: Pakistan’s First Multi-Mission Satellite Now Operational

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT-MM1, has successfully completed its testing phase and is now operational, marking a significant milestone in the country’s space and digital development.

During the PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference on Wednesday, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging space technologies for national growth. “The success of PAKSAT-MM1 will revolutionize our communication infrastructure, benefiting all sectors of society,” she stated.

The satellite is set to enhance internet connectivity, particularly in remote areas, furthering the government’s goal of a digitally connected Pakistan. “Digitalization is key to socio-economic prosperity,” Khawaja highlighted.

She also noted that Pakistan’s ranking in the UN’s e-governance development index has improved by 14 points, elevating the country to a higher tier of digital e-governance in Asia.

Chairman of SUPARCO, Muhammad Yousuf Khan, praised the team behind PAKSAT-MM1, calling the satellite a vital tool for socio-economic development and an asset for boosting Pakistan’s presence in the global space industry. “PAKSAT-MM1 will provide services such as DTH, community internet, tele-education, and tele-medicine to unconnected regions,” Khan added, encouraging local industries to collaborate on future space initiatives.

PAKSAT-MM1 is expected to remain operational for over 15 years, offering broadband, VSAT connectivity, and a variety of services, contributing to Pakistan’s ambition of becoming a digitally empowered nation. The satellite operates in C, Ku, Ka, and L bands, showcasing significant advancements in Pakistan’s space technology.

The event was attended by government officials, industry leaders, and experts, all celebrating the satellite’s role in bridging the digital divide and promoting national development.
