SRINAGAR: Prominent human rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, a vocal advocate for freedom in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has called on the UN Secretary-General and global human rights organizations to urgently address the escalating human rights abuses perpetrated by Indian occupational forces in the region.

In an open letter, Untoo, who chairs the International Forum for Justice and Human Rights (J&K), sought the immediate attention of the Chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and all members of the Geneva sessions on human rights. He highlighted the deteriorating situation marked by severe violations of human rights in the occupied territory.

Untoo urged the UN and international human rights bodies to fulfill their obligations and establish a framework to alleviate the suffering of the population in the disputed Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir.

For over three decades, Kashmir has faced severe repression, violence, and systemic human rights violations by Indian forces. Untoo asserts that India has consistently denied Kashmiris their rights and stifled their aspirations for self-determination, leading to widespread discontent and resentment towards New Delhi.
