President Putin Approves Iran-Russia Strategic Partnership Proposal

TEHRAN: Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has accepted a suggestion to ink a strategic partnership deal with Iran.

“The suggestion of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, agreed with the interested federal government organizations and bodies, to ink a comprehensive strategic partnership deal between the Russia and Iran has been accepted,” President Putin’s order was uploaded on the official website of Russia’s legal information system.

In the last high-level meeting between the top officials of the two nations recently, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian held dialogue with Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Shoigu in Tehran.

The Iranian president then said that the 14th government will seriously follow the current cooperation and steps to enhance the level of ties between the two nations. “The strengthening and deepening of ties and cooperation between Tehran and Moscow would reduce the effectiveness of sanctions as well as unfair steps against the two sides”.

Last week, President Putin during a meeting with Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader, who had traveled to St. Petersburg to attend the meeting of the BRICS member nations, emphasized Moscow’s support for Iran’s transit route.

Russian leader described the bilateral ties between Moscow and Tehran as strategic, adding that the characteristic of the relationships shows the two nations are united.

Tehran and Moscow will complete the work on the comprehensive cooperation deal in the very near future, the Russian Foreign Minister stated during a meeting.  This will be a symbolic measure in our ties with the new Iranian government, Sergei Lavrov stated, saying that the deal, of which only the technical details remain, covers all aspects of the partnership between Moscow and Tehran.
