Pakistan, Russia Resolve to Deepen Bilateral Relations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk on Thursday resolved to deepen bilateral relations.

Russia’s Deputy PM Overchuk called on Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz in Islamabad, according to a PM Office press release. Welcoming the Russian delegation, PM Shehbaz said that he looked forward to welcoming his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin to Islamabad next month.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said that Pakistan was keen to expand trade, economic, energy, connectivity and security cooperation with Russia. He conveyed that Pakistan considered strengthening relations with Russia as an important priority of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

PM Shehbaz recalled his “very fruitful” discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July earlier this year and conveyed his thanks to President Putin for sending the high-level delegation to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

Russian Deputy PM Overchuk thanked PM Shehbaz for the warm welcome and reiterated Russia’s resolve to strengthen relations with Pakistan. He characterized Pakistan-Russia ties as constructive and mutually beneficial.

The two sides agreed to maintain regular contacts for mutual benefits.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also witnessed the signing of an MoU between Pakistan and Russia, which signifies the shared understanding and desire of the two countries to further strengthen mutually advantageous cooperation in all areas of shared interest, especially agriculture, trade, energy, investment, IT, science & technology and education.
