RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a major milestone in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), securing 14th place internationally and the top position in the Arab world in the Global AI Index for 2024, released by Tortoise Intelligence, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

This 17-rank improvement among 83 nations highlights Saudi Arabia’s rapid progress in AI adoption and development. Saudi Arabia’s continued leadership in the Government Strategy sub-pillar solidifies its position as an international AI leader. Its seventh-place ranking in the Commercial Ecosystem sub-pillar further shows its commitment to investing in AI technologies and fostering a booming AI ecosystem.

The Global AI Index, a comprehensive evaluation of AI capabilities across 83 nations, evaluates performance based on 122 indicators grouped into three pillars: Implementation, Investment and Innovation. These pillars are further grouped into seven sub-pillars: Infrastructure, Talent, Operating Environment, Development, Research, Government Strategy, and Commercial Ecosystem.

This achievement underscores the unwavering support provided by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).

Under his guidance, SDAIA has been instrumental in advancing the field of data and AI, fostering innovation and developing national capabilities. This strategic approach positions Kingdom Arabia as a leading data-driven and AI-powered economy.
