Pakistan, Russia Agree to Enhance Educational Ties

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia on Thursday agreed to enhance collaboration in education, building on the positive momentum of their relationship over the past two decades.

This initiative was discussed during the visit of a high-level Russian delegation led by Andrey Korneev, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Education, and Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, to the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT).

The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, an associate professor from Ural State Pedagogical University, and officials from the Russian Embassy in Pakistan. Secretary of FEPT, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s educational achievements and challenges.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral educational cooperation and explored avenues for enhancement. The Pakistani representatives expressed a strong interest in increasing collaboration between universities in both countries, particularly in emerging technologies.

The Russian Deputy Minister highlighted initiatives to promote the Russian language in Pakistan and strengthen educational links. An agreement was reached to establish a Russian Facilitation Center in Islamabad to assist students seeking admission to Russian educational institutions.

The delegation also proposed organizing a Russian Educational Expo in Pakistan to bolster educational cooperation and promote technology-based industrial partnerships. Both sides agreed to prepare plans for finalization at the upcoming Joint Working Group Meeting, scheduled for October 2024, with 2025 anticipated as a year of action for Pakistan-Russia collaboration.

Furthermore, the Russian delegation visited Islamabad College for Girls (ICG) in Sector F-6/2, where they commended the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for its efforts in advancing pedagogical initiatives, especially focusing on girls’ education.
