RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: The Green Riyadh Program has completed the environmental rehabilitation of Ghudhwana, a vital tributary of Wadi Hanifa, after 34 months of work.
Over 15,000 trees and shrubs have been planted across 5.2 kilometers, linking neighborhoods in southwest Riyadh. This initiative aims to improve local communities by offering recreational spaces and enhancing the environment through sustainable practices.

The project focused on flood control, cleaning operations, and establishing permanent water channels to prevent flooding and swamp formation. Local trees and shrubs were planted, with irrigation using recycled water to ensure long-term sustainability. This contributes to lowering temperatures and improving the city’s green cover.

Community spaces include 65,000 square meters of seating areas, 13 children’s play zones, sports facilities, and 700 parking spots. The project also constructed shaded pathways and nine bridges to connect neighborhoods. The Green Riyadh Program is part of a broader plan to rehabilitate 148 square kilometers, boosting green spaces and improving urban living standards.
