ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Health Ministry has written a letter to the country’s Finance Ministry, fearing a medicines crisis in the coming days.

In a letter, the ministry stated that pharmaceutical companies are left with raw materials for a few days. “The medicine crisis could occur if the government did not open the Letters of Credit (LCs) for the raw material,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) office-bearers claimed that the Indian and Chinese companies are not giving the raw material to Pakistanis on credit.

Medicines and devices crisis

They also feared a serious crisis of medicines and devices in the country if the LCs were not opened immediately.

Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) spokesman said that there is no ban on the import of petroleum and pharmaceutical products. He asked the PPMA to point out the banks not opening the LCs for pharmaceutical imports.
