CAIRO: The League of Arab States (LAS) has said that the continuation of Israeli aggression against the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip, reveals the international community’s failure to respond effectively to the worsening humanitarian crisis in the affected region, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

Assistant Secretary General and Supervisor of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi said that the brutality of this aggression reflects, day after day since October 2023, the Israeli government’s intransigence and its insistence on violating the rules and principles of international humanitarian and human rights law by targeting residential buildings, institutions, and public facilities.

He said the Israeli government is depriving civilians especially children, women, and the elderly of any special protection. He said Israel continues to bomb medical, relief, and media teams while preventing the entry of aid to address food needs amid famine.

Khattabi went on to say that the Israeli Knesset’s passing of the law to bar the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in occupied Palestinian territory is a shameful and provocative act.

He said this decision aims to hinder the vital and historical role of this UN agency, which has offered commendable services in humanitarian, health, social, and educational fields in the occupied territories since its establishment in 1949.
