HARRISBURG: US Vice President Kamala Harris has called for Americans to “stop pointing fingers at each other” as she attempted to push past remarks made by US President Joe Biden regarding Trump’s supporters and “garbage” and keep the attention on her Republican rival in the closing days of the election.
Kamala Harris has said that they know they have an opportunity in these polls to turn the page on a decade of Trump, who has been attempting to keep them divided as well as afraid of each other.
White House Reacts over Biden’s Remarks
The Vice President was staging rallies in a trio of battlefield states as part of a blitz in the closing week of the race, with stops Wednesday in Raleigh, North Carolina; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; as well as Madison, Wisconsin.
Kamala Harris stressed common ground and unity, extending on her capstone speech Tuesday in Washington, where she also laid out what her team have called the “closing argument” of her election campaign. She said that she is not looking to score political points but looking to make progress.
Meanwhile, the White House has rushed to explain that Biden’s remarks regarding “garbage” was a reference to rhetoric from Donald Trump allies, not the former president’s supporters themselves. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has stated that Biden “does not view Donald Trump supporters as garbage.”
Background
The recent controversy started Tuesday — at the same time Kamala Harris was speaking near the White House — when Joe Biden attended in a campaign call organized by the Hispanic advocacy group Voto Latino. Joe Biden utilized the opportunity to disapprove Sunday’s Madison Square Garden rally, where a comedian termed Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
