WASHINGTON: US former President Donald Trump and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris sparred over how women should be treated in society as they looked for votes today in Nevada and Arizona, two Southwest political battlefield states.

Polling shows Trump, the Republican candidate and Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, are virtually tied in the two battlefield states. Nevada and Arizona are among seven closely contested states across the 50-state country that are expected to determine the outcome in next Tuesday’s elections.

In the other 43, polling suggests Harris or Trump with either decisive or comfortable leads. Appeals to voters in Latino are central to the campaigns in both Nevada and Arizona. Donald Trump won Arizona in 2016 campaign for the presidency but lost it to Biden in 2020. However, Democrats won Nevada in both previous elections.

Both presidential candidates will be in North Carolina on the weekend, with Harris also visiting Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin before Election Day.

Trump who is facing 34 felony convictions for crimes pertaining to the 2016 election is expected to reject Tuesday’s election result if he loses to Harris.

The Republican party is already accusing some election officials of widespread cheating. It is pertinent to mention that more than 57 million Americans have cast their votes via early or mail-in voting so far.

Trump and Harris met only once face to face in a debate, but trade taunts and insults every day from rally stages, in campaign advertisement and over the airwaves.  However, their latest dispute is on the treatment of women in the society.
