ISTANBUL: Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha has stressed an urgent international intervention to protect civilians from ongoing Israeli aggression and the continuing genocide against the people of Palestine, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
He made the remarks while addressing the opening of the 40th ministerial session of the OIC Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) in Istanbul. Taha underscored the committee’s crucial role in fostering economic cooperation among member states.

He reviewed a range of OIC programmes aimed at promoting social and economic collaboration to address developmental challenges within the member states. The Secretary-General highlighted the substantial progress in trade among OIC member countries and stressed the significance of effectively implementing trade programmes and projects to meet the objective of achieving 25% intra-OIC trade by 2025.
He further emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation in the food and agriculture sectors, primarily to support rural communities in the least developed OIC nations. Taha reiterated the importance of increased collaboration and synergy among all OIC member countries and institutions to fulfill the organization’s founding mission and objectives.
