MOSCOW: One person was killed and five injured when shells landed in the Russian region of Belgorod, a bordering area of Ukraine, the regional governor said on Sunday.
It said several residential buildings and vehicles were damaged across the city due to recent strikes. Earlier, the governor said that air defence systems are operating over Belgorod.
The region of Belgorod has been struck by shelling many times since President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine in February.
Strikes in border areas
The governor has also announced that fortifications near the bordering areas will be constructed. However, he did not share more details in this regard.
The latest strikes reported in the region two days following attacks by Russia battered Ukraine’s power grid.
