ISLAMABAD: Federal Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Division of Pakistan has announced the discovery of gas and condensate reserves from an exploratory well named 92 Kot Palak-1 located in Dera Ismail Khan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province.

Location of gas well

The 92 Kot Palak-1 gas and oil well was spudded on May 07, 2022, and drilled down to a depth of 3,527 meters on November 18, 2022. Based on wireline logs performance and drilling results, potential hydrocarbon enduring zones were identified on which the testing was conducted successfully.

Significance of gas discovery

The said discovery shows the commitment of the hydrocarbon (HC) potential of the block and aggressive exploration strategy of energy reserves. The discovery of Gas and Condensate reserves has opened a new path that will contribute positively to mitigating the energy demand and supply gap from indigenous resources and add to Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves base.

Oil and gas discovery and energy reliance

This energy discovery is the fifteenth Oil & Gas discovery of reserves in Pakistan just during 2022. The energy production from these newly discovered reserves will result in less Pakistan’s reliance on oil and gas imports. This will catalyze bridging the demand and supply gap of energy products. Moreover, the onset of Exploration and Production activities of Energy sources will help create job opportunities and assist in the development of the area.
