CALIFORNIA: Twitter Inc suffered a major outage leaving tens of thousands of users worldwide unable to access Twitter, the popular social media platform and its key features.

More than 10,000 Twitter users affected in US

Downdetector, a website that tracks outages through user reports and various other sources, showed more than 10,000 affected users in the United States, about 2,500 in the UK and about 2,500 in Japan at the peak of the disruption.

Twitter did not respond to the request immediately for comment, while the social network’s status page shows that all systems are operational, Reuters said.

During the outage, some users could not log in to their Twitter accounts via laptops or desktops. The issue also affected the features and mobile app, including notifications.

Twitter trend about the service disruption

Others took to Twitter to share memes and updates about the service disruption with the trending hashtag #TwitterDown on social media. Some attempts to log in to the social media platform Twitter from the desktop showed an error message: “Something went wrong, but don’t fret — it’s not your fault. Let’s try again.”

Elon Musk

Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted that he could still use the service. When a user asked Musk if Twitter was broken, he responded with, “Works for me,”

The outage comes two months after Musk’s takeover of Twitter, which has been marked by controversy and chaos.

Hundreds of employees of Twitter quit the social media company in November. Employees who left the company included engineers responsible for fixing bugs and preventing service outages.

Other big technology companies have also been hit by outages this year. In July, a nearly 19-hour service outage at Canada’s biggest telecom operator Rogers Telecommunications shut banking, transport, and government access for millions.
