Pakistan Cricket Board Ready to Cooperate with Saudi Arabia

LAHORE: Pakistan said that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is ready to share sports expertise with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi told Arab news that Pakistan would be more than willing to support Saudi Arabia to set up a cricketing structure in the Kingdom, if asked for cooperation.

Cricket matches have been playing in Saudi Arabia since 1960s. The game of cricket has been introduced by expertise from Pakistan. Saudi Arabia become an affiliate member of ICC in 2003.  Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation was also set up in 2020 to promote the sport at domestic level and prepare Saudi Arabia’s team to play international cricket.

Cricket is the most popular game in Pakistan. People play, watch and love the game countrywide. Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi said that Pakistan has the expertise, the talent, the knowledge about cricket and if Saudi Arabia wants support in this regard, they will certainly support them.

Pakistan is home to many world’s best cricket players, including former prime minister Imran Khan, who led his team to the 1992 World Cup win; legendary Wasim Akram; Shahid Afridi, Younus Khan, and Babar Azam.

Sethi said that Pakistan and Afghanistan had shared cricket experience in the past and now many Afghans become a top world player. Many players of Afghanistan were trained by Pakistani coaches, and the Afghanistan Cricket Federation was set up in 1995 with the help of Pakistan.  Since then, the cricket has gained popularity in Afghanistan, and cricketers such as Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi have become world stars.

Afghanistan is now 9th in the ICC’s One Day International rankings and became the first country to take ICC full member status  in 2017 following holding affiliate membership.
