ISLAMABAD: Driverless cars are expected not to receive a positive response at the annual CES tech mega show in Las Vegas, United States.

Since many years, driverless or autonomous vehicles have been purported to revolutionize the transportation sector. For this to become a reality, the globe’s biggest technology company have spent billions to make this a reality.

Even though, over the years, the tech behind robo-travel has shown a steady advance, it is yet to replace the non-autonomous cars.

Tech companies unable to deliver promises on driverless cars

Even Teslas, whose owner is Elon Musk, require a driver who is fully attentive despite the billionaire’s claims his cars will in a short time would be autonomous.

Since 2020, Google’s parent company Alphabet’s subsidiary Waymo has been wooing the public with autonomous vehicles, but even for those specific road features are a requirement.

In June 2022, a unit of General Motors, Cruise, made history by obtaining approval to ply robo-taxies on the streets of San Francisco with paying passengers in it. However, even this comes with conditions as the city is hilly and the layout of roads complex. Thus these cars, for starters, are only allowed to be used at night and in a specified city zone.
