LAHORE: The academic process has begun in the schools and colleges of Islamabad and Punjab today despite the cold weather, with the students coming to class with heavy hearts.

Social media rumours circulated last week suggested that the Federal Education Ministry has postponed the 7 January closing date for schools and colleges in Islamabad. However, the Ministry quickly refuted the false information. The Ministry first announced on December 13 that schools and institutions would be closed from December 26 to December 31, and later extended the vacation in Islamabad’s public and private educational institutions on December 29 till January 7.

Schools, colleges resume classes today

On the other hand, Punjab schools and colleges have also resumed classes today. The Punjab government extended the winter vacation for students in schools and colleges last week. However, schools and colleges will reopen on January 9, according to the School Education Department (SED) and Higher Education Department (HED).

The initial notification of the closure of schools and colleges from December 24 to December 31 came from both SED and HED. On January 2, classes were expected to start again. However, because of the cold, the holidays were extended until January 7.
