All Criminal Cases Against Kyrgyzstan’s Ex-president Akayev Dropped

ISLAMABAD: Kyrgyzstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office said on Friday that all criminal cases against the country’s ex-president Askar Akayev have been dropped.

In 1991, after Soviet Union’s dissolution, Akayev had been elected as the Central Asian state’s first president. However, in 2005, he was deposed from power after the so-called “Tulip Revolution”.

Gold mine cases against Akayev dropped

Numerous cases, with a wide range of charges, were opened against Akayev and his kin.

The last of the cases, which pertained to the Kumtor gold mine was closed on Friday, reported the Anadolu Agency quoting the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General’s Office.
