BEIJING: Chinese tech giant Tencent announced on Monday that it fired over100 workers for breaking company rules, and some of whom had been reported to the police and convicted of fraud, bribery and embezzlement.

Hong Kong-listed Tencent

Tencent, a leading video game developer in the world and the proprietor of the well-known super-app WeChat, the Hong Kong-listed company, has struggled amid a significant regulatory crackdown on China’s digital sector that was started in late 2020.

The company, which in November reported its second straight quarterly revenue loss, said in a statement that it had found that more than 100 employees had violated its anti-fraud policy. It claimed more than 10 employees had been turned over to China’s public security agency for further investigation.
