ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s local mobile industry recorded remarkable growth as the companies managed to manufacture around 7.24 million mobile phones and other smart devices during the last quarter, i.e., January-September 2022, and produced 26,000 jobs for locals.

As per the annual report of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), under the Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy, approximately 30 mobile manufacturer companies and outlets have been issued licenses to start production of mobile devices locally.  The policy was made to encourage local production and counter the cyber security threat.

Import decreases due to Record Growth

Moreover, the import volume of (Completely Built Unit) CBU phones in 2021 witnessed a decline for the first time in the country’s history, as most of the local demand was catered to locally manufactured products. CBU imports declined further amid a major shift towards locally manufactured mobile phones.

Meanwhile, mobile devices produced by these manufacturing companies have not only been sold out in the country but have also be exported to other competitive markets of the region and beyond
