ISLAMABAD/DAVOS: Switzerland said that Culture ministers from all over Europe have launched an alliance to create more sustainable and climate-friendly cities, buildings, and urban landscapes.

According to the Agence France-Presse (AFP), “In future, politicians, civil and business society could be working together to create better-designed villages, and landscapes,” the Switzerland government said announcing the launch of the new project “Davos Baukultur Alliance”.

Baukultur is a shorthand for the preservation and development of quality, sustainable, and culturally relevant cities and buildings.

Alain Berset, Swiss President, had invited culture ministers from 31 European nations to a two-day meeting in Switzerland ahead of the World Economic Forum kicks off in the luxury ski resort.

Alliance purpose

Along with civil society and leading companies from the real estate industries, they agreed to launch a global network to help meet construction and planning challenges, including transitioning to more sustainable energy sources. “Its purpose is the sustainable, quality-oriented management of buildings, infrastructure, and landscapes for the benefit of all,”.

Berset, Switzerland interior minister said that “Good Baukultur has never been as significant as it is today. There can be no sustainable constructions without it,”.

He said that a commitment to high-quality cities and building culture is “an indispensable part of achieving a swift energy transition,”.
