Meta, Amazon, Microsoft to Cut Jobs

WASHINGTON: Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and Twitter are going to cut their staff in the upcoming days as Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it will cut 10,000 employees, which will decrease the firm’s headcount by less than five percent.

Similarly, Amazon is likely to cut more than 18,000 employees in the upcoming days. The dismissals come in a time of higher interest rates to fight inflation, slowing growth and fears of a possible recession in the upcoming year.

As per media reports and public statements, some top companies in the tech industry are likely to reduce their staff. Here are the details.

Amazon

CEO of Amazon Andy Jassy had announced that the techno company was making a plan to discharge over 18,000 employees in human resources and store departments. The company went on a hiring extravaganza during the Covid epidemic. The firm’s global workforce increased to over 1.6 million by December 2021.

Meta 

Meta

Meta also announced that it plans to reduce 13 percent of its employees, which amounts to over 11,000 employees. Meta’s cuts come following it expanded headcount by 60 percent during the Covid-19 epidemic.

Twitter 

The social media app’s new owner Elon Mask tweeted on November, 4 that he will opt to cut employees as the firm is losing 4 million US dollars per day.
