President Dr. Arif Alvi Emphasizes Ulema’s Role in Social Reforms

ISLAMABAD:  President Dr. Arif Alvi Wednesday called upon Mashaikh and Ulema to play their role in bringing a positive social change to discourage extremism and terrorism.

The president received a delegation from the Ulema Mashaikh Yakjehti Council of Pakistan (UMYC) at Aiwan-e-Sadr. During the meeting, he urged their role in inculcating moral and ethical values in society, promoting national solidarity, religious tolerance, the conservation of resources, and inter-faith harmony and peace.

He urged them to play their role in eliminating terrorism, extremism, and sectarianism by highlighting the true teachings and spirit of Islam in the light of the Holy Quran, Sunnah, and Ahadith of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

He said the challenges of militancy and terrorism in the country needed a comprehensive action plan with concerted efforts by religious leaders in counter-extremism and counter-terrorism.

President Dr. Arif Alvi said that it was the responsibility of the ulema to spread the true teachings of Islam among the people, especially new generation to bring in social reforms, and promote virtues, morality and ethics in society.

He said that Pakistan could achieve development and get its rightful place in the comity of nations through persistence, moral righteousness, discipline, and promoting social justice.

The president stressed that the Ulema should make efforts to end divisions in society, and promote unity and solidarity in the country.

Chairman UMYC Qari Hidayat Ullah Mirani led the delegation that consisted of Molana Gul Wali, Major Ehtasham Uddin Kiyani, Muhammad Younas Qureshi, Alama Mufti Mehmood Ahmed Tabasam, Prof Abdul Ghaffar Shah Bukhari, Abdul Rahim Abbasi, Noor Elahi, Sheikh Mazhar Hussain, Sheikh Zia ur Rehman,  Fahad Maqsood, Hameed Ullah Khan, and Jamal Khan.
