Finance Minister Urges Business Community to Generously Donate for Earthquake Victims

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday called upon the business community to generously contribute to the Prime Minister Relief Fund for Turkiye earthquake victims to support their rescue efforts and provide relief to the catastrophe-affected people of the brotherly nation.

Addressing the business community, the finance minister expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the massive earthquake and prayed for the departed souls. He also prayed for the early recovery of those wounded in the natural calamity.

The finance minister said on the special directives of Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif, the special relief fund had already been established, and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had issued a circular to all the commercial banks for issuance of IBAN numbers for the collection of donations.  

He asked all the chambers of commerce of Pakistan to mobilize their resources and contribute generously to the relief fund to extend full support to the Turkish brothers in this challenging time.

Finance Minister recalls Turkish president’s solidarity with Pakistan

He recalled that when the catastrophic floods hit Pakistan last year, causing over $30 billion loss, including $15 billion in economic and $16 physical, the Turkish president and his wife visited Pakistan to express solidarity with the people of the country.

The minister said the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is in progress, hoping that the talks would successfully be concluded soon.
