ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan Friday announced launching of the Jail Bharo (court arrest) movement from Wednesday next week (22 February) against the PDM government’s “political victimization” of PTI leaders and allies.

PTI leaders Azam Swati, Fawad Chaudhry, and Shahbaz Gill have been arrested and released on bail, while Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has also secured bail recently. PTI alleges that all of these leaders were tortured in custody, a claim that authorities deny.

Party leaders, workers to fill jails on 22 February

The party leaders and workers will fill jails, the authorities will have no space left then, he said while addressing the nation via video link from Lahore’s Zaman Park House.

The tensions between the government and the PTI have heightened, with no sign of respite as the elections in 2 provinces — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab — near, following the party (PTI)’s decision to dissolve the assemblies.
