ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Friday extended an invitation to the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Sikandar Sultan Raja for an urgent meeting on 20 February to discuss the date of general elections.
In his letter to CEC Raja, President Alvi said that since his letter dated 8 February, some substantial developments such as the Judgment of the Lahore High Court and recent observations of the Supreme Court took place.
The president expressed displeasure over the inaction and apathy on the part of the Election Commission that did not yet respond to his earlier letter.

The president said that he waited anxiously that the election commission would realize its constitutional duties to act and proceed accordingly, but was extremely disappointed by the commission’s poignant approach on this important issue.
