Polling Underway in NA-193 Rajanpur Amid Strict Security

JAMPUR, PAKISTAN: Polling for the by-election in the National Assembly constituency NA-193 (Rajanpur-I) is underway amid strict security as the poling would continue until 5pm.

The polling began at 8 a.m. and will continue until 5pm without any break. As many as 11 candidates are contesting NA-193 Rajanpur contest but the main contest is likely between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Mohsin Leghari and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz candidate Emaar Owais Leghari. Seven candidates are contesting the election as independents.

 

Rajanpur seat

 

The seat had fallen vacant due to death of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member national assembly Sardar Muhammad Jaffar Khan Leghari. He died in Lahore on 31 December 2022, after a protracted illness. Mohsin Leghari is the nephew of deceased Jaffar Khan Leghari.

 

As many as 237 polling stations have been set up in the national assembly constituency, of which 68 have been declared sensitive. Around 2,650 security personnel have been deployed in the area to deal with any untoward situation while Rangers and Army personnel will also patrol the area during the day.
