ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON DC: Twitter Inc. has laid off at least 200 employees, or about 10 percent of its workforce, in its latest round of layoffs since Elon Musk took over the microblogging site last October, The New York Times reported late Sunday.

According to the newspaper, the layoffs on Saturday night affected data scientists, product managers, and engineers who worked on site reliability and machine learning, which helps keep Twitter’s various features online. Twitter did not instantly respond to a request for comment from Reuters. According to Musk, last month, the company had approximately 2,300 active employees.

Twitter employee’s layoff in early November

The latest layoffs follow a mass layoff in early November when Musk laid off about 3,700 employees as part of a measure of cost-cutting after acquiring the company for $44 billion. In November, Musk stated that the Twitter was experiencing “massive drop in revenue” as advertisers reduced spending due to concerns about content moderation. Twitter has recently begun sharing ad revenue with some of its content creators.

Twitter move is to offset revenue drop

The Information reported earlier in the day said that the social media platform Twitter laid off dozens of employees on Saturday in order to offset a drop in revenue.
