ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will announce today (Wednesday) the verdict in the suo-moto case pertaining to the delay in the announcement of a date for the elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, both of which have been under the caretaker governments since the provincial assemblies were dissolved in late January.

The verdict is expected to be announced around 11am.

Supreme Court to settle the issue once and for all

The supreme court decision will settle, once and for all, which constitutional office — the president, the Election Commission of Pakistan, or governors — should announce the date for elections in case the provincial assemblies are dissolved in future.

The SC judges hearing the case are Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.
