LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has warned that division within the Supreme Court would be a tragedy for the country as concerns arise over a rift in the top court’s verdict on the elections delay the case.

Khan urged everyone to pray for unity among the judges and the preservation of the Constitution, which he claimed was being ignored by the current government.

Khan’s comments came as he appeared at the Lahore High Court (LHC), where he was granted bail in a case for allegedly putting the families of army officers at risk.

The complaint was filed by Magistrate Manzoor Ahmed, and accused Khan of using inappropriate language against military officers in one of his speeches.

In his defence, Khan’s lawyer argued that his client was innocent and had been falsely implicated for political reasons.

The PTI chief has previously claimed that false criminal cases have been registered against him and the senior leadership of PTI in recent months and accused state functionaries of seeking to satisfy their political adversaries.

During the hearing, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi approved Khan’s bail until April 26 and directed him to refer to the concerned court by the next date.

The PTI chief’s lawyer stated that they would be approaching the court concerned upon their return to Islamabad on April 18.

The case against Khan has further fueled concerns over the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law in Pakistan.

Khan’s warning against division within the Supreme Court highlights the need for unity among the judiciary to safeguard the Constitution and protect the country from potential tragedy.
