ISLAMABAD: Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan, a former provincial minister of Punjab and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), announced his resignation from the party on Tuesday.

Addressing a news conference, Chohan cited incidents following his arrest as the reason for his decision. He expressed dissatisfaction with the party leadership’s response to his arrest, particularly the lack of support from PTI chief Imran Khan.

Chohan criticized the party’s alleged policy of violence and urged for politics to be conducted with patience and tolerance. He claimed to have been sidelined within the party for the past year due to his opposition to confrontational politics against the state and institutions.

Chohan also highlighted the absence of any sympathy or support from Imran Khan, despite his sacrifices for the party. He mentioned being banned from entering Imran Khan’s residence and expressed disappointment over the lack of a tweet or statement from the PTI chief during his eight-day imprisonment.

Additionally, Chohan referenced rumors of his alleged support for the army as a factor that contributed to his marginalization within the party.

This announcement follows the recent departure of several other PTI members, including Dr. Shireen Mazari, Mian Jalil Sharaqpuri, Salman Qureshi, Amir Mehmood Kiyani, and Mohamood Moulvi, who expressed dissatisfaction with the party leadership and condemned the violence that occurred on May 9.

In response, Imran Khan claimed that members were being forced to leave the party at gunpoint, but he remained unconcerned, stating that the party’s vote bank would increase in the aftermath of recent events.
