ISLAMABAD: The government of Sindh has decided to introduce pink taxis after launching buses for women.

Following the Pink Bus Service, the Sindh government will introduce a “Pink Taxi Service” with electric cars for the benefit of the province’s female population, stated Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday.

The announcement was made at a meeting in Karachi. The minister stated that in the initial phases, 200 electricity-powered taxis will operate in Karachi, 50 of which will be women-only taxis driven by female drivers. He said that the hiring of female drivers, as well as setting up of charging and parking depots, has still to be completed.

According to Memon, the electric taxi service will provide people with affordable transportation options. He claimed that the project will also create job opportunities for unemployed youth and that eco-friendly taxis will save oil worth billions of rupees.

Govt to buy 500 new electric busses

The information minister also announced that the Sindh government has planned buying 500 new buses in the coming fiscal year, which would be operating under the Peoples Bus Service for the benefit of the people. He also directed the relevant authorities to begin a new bus route from Hattri to Khesana Morig in Hyderabad. He said the new route trials would begin within the following three days.

He said the new route will provide affordable travel options for people living in rural areas. The minister then issued directions to bring all buses currently stranded on Karachi’s roadways for the convenience of citizens. He said the government will be receiving 20 new buses by June 15.
