Former PTI Lawmaker Ayesha Gulalai Joins PML-Q

LAHORE: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Ayesha Gulalai on Thursday announced to join the Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain-led Pakistan Muslim League (Q).

Gulalai made the statement with PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Sarwar, Noor Wali, and other party leaders at a news conference in Lahore.

Ayesha Gulalai confirmed her decision of joining the PML-Q during the press conference, expressing confidence in the party’s leadership and vision. Furthermore, Noor Wali, an esteemed politician from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), announced his departure from the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) to join the PML-Q.

Who is Ayesha Gulalai?

Ayesha Gulali Wazir began her political career in South Waziristan as a human rights activist. Ayesha Gulalai, a social activist, joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2012 and was nominated as a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf central committee. In the 2013 general elections, Wazir was indirectly elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of PTI on a reserved seat for women from FATA, becoming the first female Member of the National Assembly from FATA and one of the parliament’s youngest members.

She quit the PTI in August 2017, claiming that the party does not treat women with respect and dignity. She had accused Imran Khan of sending her indecent text messages in October 2013. As a faction of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Ayesha Gulalai founded her own party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Gulalai), in February 2018. Ayesha used to serve as the Chief Coordinator of the Pakistan People’s Party for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and was a member of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).
