RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has carried out the execution of two Bahraini nationals accused of plotting terrorist activities, according to state media reports on Monday. The latest executions bring the total number of similar cases to nine this month.

The two individuals, identified as Jaafar Sultan and Sadiq Thamer, were convicted of “joining a terrorist cell led by a wanted man in Bahrain,” stated the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA). No immediate response has been received from Bahraini authorities regarding the executions.

Saudi Arabia has executed a total of nine individuals convicted of terrorism-related offenses since May 2. Most of these executions have taken place in the eastern region of the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia Carries Out 40 Executions this Year

According to reports from state media, Saudi Arabia has carried out over 40 executions this year. In 2022, Saudi Arabia executed 147 people, including 81 individuals, in a single day for terrorism-related charges, sparking international condemnation.

The two Bahraini nationals were accused of receiving training in terrorist camps with the aim of destabilizing the security of both Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, as stated by SPA. They were also charged with smuggling explosive materials and supporting plans for terrorist attacks in both countries.

Bahrain has also carried out executions in recent years for terrorism-related offenses. The Bahraini government accuses Iran of supporting and harboring terrorists, a charge that Tehran denies.
