MOSCOW: Officials claimed on Tuesday that a drone attack in Moscow had caused slight damage to a few buildings.

Sergei Sobyanin, the capital city’s mayor, said there had been no serious injuries or damages, and emergency response services were at the scene of the incidents.

He added that air defenses shot down several as the drones reached the Russian capital.

It is currently unclear where the drones originated. Unconfirmed reports state that there were around 20 drones involved, although Russian authorities claim that several of them were shot down and then crashed on buildings.

Kyiv has not responded, but on Monday, Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, warned about a quick response to a string of Russian missile attacks on Kyiv.

Pictures on social media showed clouds of smoke in the sky over Moscow, and many other images showed a broken window.

Some residents were being evacuated, according to Sobyanin. He also mentioned on Telegram that no one was sent to the hospital even though two people were seeking medical help.

Steve Rosenberg, the Russia editor for the BBC, who is located in Moscow, heard an explosion at 06:24 local time (03:24 GMT) in north-west Moscow. The blow caused the windows in his home to tremble. He claims that an explosion was heard at 06:58.

Following an overnight drone attack on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, in which at least one person was reportedly killed, Moscow was targeted for attack. According to Ukrainian officials, houses were set on fire by falling debris as Ukraine’s air defenses stopped more than 20 drones.

At the beginning of May, a drone attack on the Kremlin allegedly occurred. Unverified videos of smoke rising over the complex at the time and another showing a tiny explosion over the site’s Senate building also circulated online.

Russian officials claimed it was an attack ordered by Kyiv, while Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian president, denied his country’s involvement.
