Pakistan, Turkmenistan Discuss Progress on TAPI, TAP Projects

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Turkmenistan on Wednesday discussed the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) Power Transmission Line Project and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Gas Pipeline Project the with the Pakistani authorities.

The Turkmenistan delegation, on a two-day visit to Pakistan, was led by State Minister Maksat Babayev and Deputy Minister of Energy Annageldi Saparov, and it held a meeting with federal Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir Khan and state minister Dr Musadik Malik here in Islamabad.

During the meeting, both sides discussed a wide range of matters of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, especially the projects for the construction of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan power transmission and fiber-optic communication line and the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India transnational gas pipeline.

It was agreed that considerable progress had been made in implementation of the TAPI Project. The construction of the 214-kilometer-long Turkmenistan section of the TAPI pipeline from the Galkynysh gas field to the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan border has been completed.

TAP power transmission line will run in parallel to the TAPI gas pipeline which would provide the Gas Pipeline and its facilities with electric energy and would play a key role in satisfying the domestic and industrial needs for electricity and reducing electricity costs in Pakistan.

Pakistan stresses importance of projects

Pakistan side stressed that both Projects had full support of the Government of Pakistan as they were very important for the socio-economic development of the region and for ensuring economic growth and energy security in Pakistan.
