CHONGQING: Rainstorms have pounded several areas of the Chongqing Municipality in southwest China since Thursday, prompting some districts and counties to issue downpour red alerts.
Some towns in Beibei District had received more than 100 mm of precipitation as of Friday at 6 a.m. On Friday, there was still much rain.
Soeveral regions in Wanzhou District are predicted to receive more rainfall than 100 mm.
The regional meteorological service has issued alerts on secondary catastrophes like landslides and river floods in small and medium-sized rivers.
The Chongqing water conservancy bureau reports that due to the recent downpour, Chongqing has initiated a Class-III emergency response to prevent flood and drought disasters.
