WARSAW: Five persons were killed on Monday after a small plane crashed into a hangar at an airfield close to Warsaw.

Three individuals reportedly boarded the aircraft when it crashed into the corrugated iron hangar, where 13 people sought refuge from the storm.

“Five people have lost their lives, and eight others were injured; two of them are in critical condition,” said Sylwester Marczak, a spokeswoman for the Warsaw police, adding that the pilot was one among the dead.

The aircraft crashed down at a small airport known for parachute jump training in the village of Chrcynno, located 29 miles (47 kilometers) outside of Warsaw.

Inquiry to plane crash

The Cessna airplane was modified to accommodate parachutists. The local fire department shared a picture of the plane’s tail poking out of the hangar on Facebook. Police were informed just after 1730 GMT, according to Marczak, and an inquiry will be opened.
